About The Role
We are looking for a Senior API/Backend Developer with a strong background in designing and building scalable backend systems. This role is ideal for someone who excels at crafting robust APIs, managing complex databases, and leveraging cloud infrastructure.
This role covers four key areas:
1) Backend Architecture and Development
Design and implement RESTful APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
Ensure APIs are secure, performant, and scalable to support growing traffic and data needs.
Build and maintain highly optimized database schemas and queries in Postgres.
Integrate with a variety of third-party platforms.
2) Cloud Infrastructure
Leverage Google Cloud Platform services for hosting, logging, monitoring, and scaling applications.
Ensure reliability and uptime through sound CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools.
3) Collaboration
Work closely with front-end engineers, Insights & Strategy, Engineering leadership, and designers to define data models and API specifications.
Participate in regular code reviews, sprint planning, and retrospectives to improve processes.
4) Data Management and Optimization
Design and implement efficient solutions for large-scale data storage and retrieval.
Perform regular performance tuning and optimize database queries for speed.
Design and manage various data transformation and load tasks.
Your Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be an experienced backend engineer who thrives on delivering impactful user experiences and meets the following qualifications:
5+ years of experience as a backend/API developer
Expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and API design best practices
Strong knowledge of Postgres, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization
Strong experience with Mac and PC operating systems
Experience building and managing infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (or similar cloud providers like AWS)
Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Google Cloud Deploy, Kubernetes) and version control systems (e.g., Git)
Strong understanding of security best practices for API development
Experience with monitoring & alerting tools

Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000 (based on experience) and discretionary bonus.
